Barrow Island Bowling Green was opened on Sunday 23 September 2001 by its oldest member at the time Bert Aubrey, assisted by the then Chairman of the club Don Logan and the youngest members Ashley Gibbons and Lloyd Eastham.
The idea of having a bowling green on Barrow Island came from a workshop organised by Barrow Borough Council in 1998 and a committee chaired by Don Logan.
The committee and residents raised enough money with the help of local businesses to successfully apply for a grant from National Lottery Sport England to construct the bowling green.
Members of the club and volunteers worked tirelessly to construct the pavilion and prepare the ground for the turf to be laid. The facility has plenty of seats and shelters for spectators.
We currently have 9 teams playing in 6 different leagues, we have a mixed and open membership which currently stands at around 80 persons including our young members.
New and experienced bowlers are welcome to join our club, please call at the bowling green and see our facilities.
